Why Choose Wooden Windows & Doors
Window and door security should never be overlooked. Members of the Wood Window Alliance (WWA) manufacture wooden windows and doors that are functional as well as beautiful. Through testing and certification they can provide reassurance that window and door security is one of their top priorities.
Window and door security
The level of security provided by a window or door will depend upon the design, quality of manufacture, the hardware specified and the type of glazing used.
Our members test their wooden windows and doors to PAS24 and provide products that are compliant with Approved Document Part Q. Many WWA members also have Secured by Design accreditation; the official police security initiative.
Guidance on Part Q
In October 2015 the building regulations for England were amended through the introduction of ‘Part Q’ to introduce new requirements for security standards in new build homes (including new homes created by a change of use such as barn conversion). Compliance of Part Q relates to a window or door’s ability to “resist physical attack by a would be burglar.”
To provide further guidance on how to specify windows and doors that satisfy the requirements of Part Q, we have produced a dedicated advice note. Click here to download the advice note Building Regulations: Part Q Guidelines, Security for accessible windows and doors in new homes.
