Why Choose Wooden Windows & Doors

The quality and engineering of wooden windows and doors in the UK has undergone a revolution over the past decade. Members of the Wood Window Alliance (WWA) have been at the forefront of these developments.

As an organisation that champions the benefits of timber, our members’ windows and doors consistently meet our exacting standards, are easy to maintain and provide peace-of-mind through long-life guarantees.

So why choose wood? Wooden windows and doors bring beauty and warmth to properties, are an environmentally friendly building material and positively contribute to health and wellbeing. Our members only manufacture from timber that has been sourced responsibly through either the FSC® or PEFC™ chain of custody certification schemes.

Value for Money

New or replacement windows are an important long-term investment. They add value to your home, save on fuel bills, reduce condensation, improve peace and quiet, and reduce the time you have to spend on maintenance.

Aesthetics

The natural beauty of wooden windows and doors provide warmth, charm and timeless appeal to any property. They can be highly customised, with a choice of paint and stain options and a variety of ironmongery. Plus, they can be painted or stained every time you want to change the look of your house.

Energy Efficiency

The energy efficiency of wooden windows and doors when manufactured to the high standards set by the WWA exceed those required in the Building Regulations. Our members design and manufacture their windows to ensure they surpass the performance requirements defined in BS 6375 Parts 1 and 2 relating to weather tightness, operation and strength.

Conservation Approved

If you are considering installing new or replacement windows and doors in a conservation area, or in a sensitive period building we recommend you talk to one of members. They have both the products and the experience to help you.

Sustainability

Members of the Wood Window Alliance must hold either FSC® or PEFC™ chain of custody certification to show how they source timber from sustainably managed forests. Plus, all members are audited on their environmental policies, looking at energy consumption, waste management and recycling.

Security

The level of security provided by a window or door will depend upon the design, quality of manufacture, the hardware specified and the type of glazing used. Security is designed into members products as standard and are tested to PAS 24.

Guarantees

We set a quality benchmark for the manufacture of wood windows and doors. All WWA members offer supplier-back guarantees; providing peace of mind and confidence in their products. Typically these include 30 years for the frame and 8 to 10 years for paint coatings.
